Introduction

Everyone wants a safe home. The trouble is, we often think of safety as something that happens outside the home. We lock our doors at night and keep an eye on our wallets in public places. But there are some things you can do to make your house safer while you’re inside it, too—and they’re not all that difficult or expensive. That’s why I’m sharing my top tips for making your home safer from now on:

Secure your windows and doors.

As you can see, there are many ways to keep your home safe. But it’s important to remember that no matter how much you do, there will always be some risk involved when living in a city. If you have any concerns about the safety of your neighborhood or home, talk with a local police officer or security expert. They can tell you what steps can be taken to improve safety at your address and offer advice on how best to stay protected while living in an urban area like yours!

Install outdoor lighting.

  • Install outdoor lighting. This is a good idea for several reasons:
  • It helps prevent crime by making it easier for you to see what is going on outside your home, which can deter criminals from approaching or breaking into your property.
  • The lights also make it appear as if someone is home, so intruders may think twice about approaching your house if they think someone might be inside watching them through the windows or doors.
  • Additionally, having lights in place will allow you to see suspicious vehicles in your yard or driveway when arriving home at night or leaving in the morning–and this could potentially save lives!

Re-key your locks.

If you’re not sure what a re-key is, ask a locksmith. It’s a simple process that can change the way your door works and help keep burglars out. If you can’t afford to change the locks on your apartment or house, get a security bar for each exterior door so that it stays locked at all times. If this option isn’t feasible for whatever reason (the landlord won’t allow it), then at least use chains on each door so they’re harder to break through if someone tries breaking in through one of them instead of just kicking down an interior wall like most criminals do nowadays anyways because they know how easy it is for people who aren’t prepared enough yet still want peace-of-mind while sleeping soundly knowing no one else will come knocking late at night asking questions about why they look different than before when last seen together only yesterday afternoon during lunch break where both parties ate lunch together but didn’t say much except “hi” when passing by each other while walking towards our respective tables

Don’t use public Wi-Fi.

One of the easiest ways for hackers to access your personal data is by using public Wi-Fi networks. If you’re in a coffee shop, hotel or airport and want to use the internet, don’t connect directly to their network–instead, use a virtual private network (VPN) like ExpressVPN or NordVPN. These services encrypt all of your traffic so that it’s completely inaccessible to anyone but you and your device.

Use motion sensors where appropriate.

Motion sensors are a great way to ensure your home is protected while you’re away. They can be used in a variety of ways, including:

  • Detecting movement
  • Triggering lights and security systems (alarms, cameras)
  • Automating home automation systems

Install an alarm system.

  • Alarm systems are one of the best ways to keep your home safe.
  • You can install an alarm system yourself, or hire a professional.
  • There are many types of alarms available on the market today: hardwired or wireless, with or without key fobs, and panic buttons that sound an alarm when you press them.

Consider home automation for convenience and safety features.

  • Home automation systems allow you to control your lights, security systems and thermostats remotely.
  • You can set up your home automation system to automatically turn on or off lights or appliances at certain times of day. For example, if you’re going out for dinner with friends, the house will be lit up when they arrive so they know where they’re going inside. Or maybe it’s time for bed–the living room light will automatically turn off after 30 minutes without motion being detected by the motion sensor (and possibly even before then).
  • Some systems even have alerts built into them so that if there is an issue with water pressure or temperature levels getting too high/low due in part to weather conditions outside then those alerts will send messages directly to your phone via text message or email letting you know exactly what’s happening inside without having someone come check every day!

There are some simple things you can do to make yourself safer at home

  • Keep your home secure.
  • If you have a break in, stay calm and call the police.
  • If you are away from home, make sure someone is checking on it regularly.

Conclusion

If you take these simple steps to secure your home, you will be much safer. There are many other things that can be done to increase security, but these are some of the easiest and most effective ways of preventing crime in your neighborhood.
